NINTH GENERATION

206. Ann BOWLBY (1334) (1335)(760) was born about 4 Dec 1768.(1336) She was baptised on 25 Dec 1768. She died on 18 Feb 1816.(1337) She was buried in Bowlby Cem., Imlaydale, NJ. (1338)

Ann was baptized by Reverend William FRAZER. She was the fourth of Samuel's four daughters named in her grandfather's will of 1779 to receive half an acre at Johnson's Mill, now New Hampton. When she sold this land 2 FEB 1800, she was the wife of Garret LACEY (also spelled "LACY" and "LEACY"). Garret and his brother, John, who married Mary BOWLBY, were the sons of Garret LACEY, a Justice of the Peace in Sussex County. Ann was deceased before 1823 when her father's heirs were named. On 22 NOV 1823, a petition for the partition of Samuel BOWLBY's lands was presented in the perogative court of Sussex County by Garret LACEY on behalf of Mary LACEY ". . . a minor under fourteen years of age of whose person and estate the said Garret LACEY hath been appointed guardian. . . " Garret LACEY, Esquire, could have been Mary's father, but a reasonable interpretation of this situation is that Ann and her husband were both deceased before 1823 leaving a daughter, Mary, whose appointed guardian was her paternal grandfather. A daughter of Ann would be heir to her mother's portion of her grandfather's estate. Garret LACEY, Ann's husband, would have been natural guardian of their daughter with no need of appointment. Garret LACEY, the grandfather, would probably be appointed guardian if his son and daughter-in-law were both deceased.
