921. Hamilton BOWLBY (5138) (5139)(760) was born about 1838 in New Hampton, Hunterdon Co., NJ.(5140) He served in the military in Company H, 8th Regt., NJ Volunteers. (5141)

Hamilton suffered a gunshot wound to the leg in the 2nd battle of Bull Run, 29 Aug 1862.

Fellow volunteer and company member Henry LUNGER noted that Hamilton BOWLBY "was a tent mate of mine in Co. H, 8th Regt. NJ Vols. and it was my duty as 2nd Sergeant to take the sick to the Regimental Hospital. About election time in Nov 1861 the Regiment was ordered to Bryantown, MD to guard the Election, when we returned to camp I found him suffering with Neuralgia and took him to the Regimental Hospital for treatment. During the month of Jun 1862 I also took him to the Regimental Hospital for treatment for Chronic Diarrhea and in Jul he was relieved from duty for several days".

He was married to Catherine C. MITCHELL on 14 Nov 1863 in Whitehouse/Mechanicsville, Hunterdon Co., NJ. (5142)

They were married by Rev. Isaac C. Thomas. The marriage record exists at the Methodist Episcopal Church, New Germantown, Hunterdon Co., NJ Hamilton BOWLBY and Catherine C. MITCHELL had the following children:
