COMPENDIUM OF HISTORY REMINISCENCE AND BIOGRAPHY OF WESTERN NEBRASKA gives a brief sketch of his life. John engaged in agricultural pursuits in Polk County until he settled on a homestead in Loup Co., NE in 1904. In 1909, he had 300 acres, 90 acres of which were under cultivation, good buildings, and an orchard of 100 apple trees.

He was married to Levada HEDGE (daughter of Mary PUTMAN) in 1888. John H. BOWLBY and Levada HEDGE had the following children:
