DAILY ARDMOREITE, Ardmore, Oklahoma, Sunday, November 22, 1925 -
"Aged Woman Dies at Veteran's Home" - "Mrs. Mary Weddington,
aged wife of Dr. Rufus A. Weddington, veteran of the Civil War, died Saturday
afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Oklahoma Confederate home here. She had been
confined to her bed since last spring when shef fell and broke her hip while
attending the annual reunion of the Oklahoma confederate veterans at Sulphur.
The funeral will be conducted Monday morning at 10 o'clock from the chapel of
the home with Dr. C. C. Weith of the First Presbyterian church officiating. Burial
will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Bettes Funeral Home in charge."
She was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Carter County, Oklahoma.

1927 -
"Taps Sounded for Two Vets -- Double funeral services conducted in Chapel
of Oklahoma Confederate Home"
"Taps were sounded this afternoon at the Oklahoma Confederate home for W.
M. Terry and Rufus W.* Weddington, veterans of the Civil War, who passed away
Monday. Double funeral services were conducted from the chapel of the home by
the Reverend Mr. Sumner, minister of the Baptist church. Mr. Terry was a former
Baptist minister, while Dr. Weddington was a physician. The former was 89 years
old and had made his home at the Confederate home here for many years. He was
a member of Company One of the Twelfth South Carolina infantry. Dr. Weddington
was 86 years old. He was a widower and leaves no children. During the war he
served with Company D of the Thirteenth Tennessee infantry. He had lived at
the home the last five years. Burial was conducted at Rose Hill cemetery under
the direction of the Harvey Brothers."

(5900) There is reason to believe that Rufus was first married to
Louisa E. Boone and may have had two children by her; however, proof is pending
per research undertaken by Joy Gallagher. Until such proof is found, she is
not being officially listed herein as a spouse. |
