TENTH GENERATION
663. Elizabeth BOWLBY
(3)(5)
(6)(7)
(8) was born on 15 Jan 1825.
(368)(3933)
Bowlby Families indicates she was born 5 Jan 1822. She died after 1901.
(368) She was married to Asa POTTER on 1
Jan 1847.(368)
(3934) Although the Bowlby book was unable to add the names of their
three
children, Fred Potter has been able to help. This couple moved to Canada West,
Bayham Township, Elgin County, where
Andrew Chute and other Annapolis County families lived, including
Asa's brother-in-law James E. Woodworth and family, (moved 1862, after
his wife, Sarah E. (POTER) died).
Asa later obtained a land grant in Snowdon Township, Haliburton
County, Ontario. In the 1871 census, Asa, (the enumerator) lists the
family there. Herbert and Delilah Potter were in the neighboring
community of Minden. The soil in Snowdon Township ws very rocky and
soon became depleted so dozens of farms had to be abandoned.
In 1880, Asa, Elizabeth and grandaughter Florence were in Wilson,
Winona County, MN., Herbert and his family were in Bayham Township in
1881, and ten years later, Elizabeth was living next door to her son
Herb, in Bayham, Ontario. In 1901, Elizabeth is living with Herb. and
family. Asa POTTER(5)
(6)
(3935)(7)
(8) was born on 30 Apr 1817.(368)
He died on 27 Jan 1889 in Bayham, Ontario.
(3936)(3916) Fred Potter
has this birth date as either 17 or 27 Jan 1889. He has
also not found a death record, and wonders if perhaps he died in the
USA and was then brought home for burial. He was buried in Calton Cemetery,
Ontario.(3916)
Asa was the enumerator for the 1871 census of Snowdon Twp. and he
recorded Joseph N.W. and Mary Eliza Potter, with their dau. Florence
A. b. Jan 1871. as well as Sidney and Aratia Arnold.
Nine years later we find Asa, Elizabeth and grand-daughter Florence in
Wilson, Winona Co. MN. Asa died Jan 1889 and is buried in Elgin Co.
ON. (did he die in the USA and was buried in Canada?) while Elizabeth
return to Ontario by 1891, and live on the farm of her son B.H. Potter
in Bayham Twp. ON. she was still living there in 1901 but her burial
place is not found. Asa's name is the only name on his stone.
Elizabeth BOWLBY and Asa POTTER had the following children:
+1741 i.
Benjamin Herbert POTTER.
+1742 ii.
Joseph Noah W. POTTER.
+1743 iii.
