NINTH GENERATION

257. Enos BOWLSBY (3)(1604) (5) (581)(582) (7)(8) was born about 1772 in Hanover Township, Morris County, New Jersey.(1605)
Raymond Edwin Bowlby wrote:

Only his name appears in the Stiles family history as the third child
of George and Phebe Bowlsby. The chart of early Bowlby generations by
William A. Reeves lists Enos as a son of George Bowlby and states that
he married Abigail Hayward. Abilgail Bowlsby was named as a daughter
in the will of John Hayward who died testate in Hanover, New Jersey,
administration granted 26 February, 1808. Enos emigrated north into
Saratoga County, New York, with his brothers, John and George, and his
sisters, Betty and Polly. Enos then moved further north and settled
in Brideport, Addison County, Vermont, where he was head of household
in the 1800 census... After 1800, Enos' family removed to Ohio. In
1814, Enos Bowlsby purchased land in Union County, Indiana, and the
following year Enos and "Abi" Bowlsby of Butler County, Ohio,
purchased more land in the same place. In 1820, they were established
in Franklin County, Indiana, with their married son, Levi, as a
neighbor. A biography and family chart concerning William Henry
Harrison Bowlsby may be found in the APTF, or vertical file, of the
New York Public Library. These papers were updated by Madison Henry
Compton, Route #1, Box 430, Hawthorne, California, in 1931. With
exception to two statements at the beginning of the chart, the given
genealogy is obviously applicable to the family of Enos and Abigail
(Hayward) Bowlsby. The two statements are that the grandfather of
William H. H. Bowlsby (name not given) was born and raised in Ireland,
then moved to Vermont, and that William's father, who was born in 1746
in Vermont, moved in early youth to Hamilton County, Ohio, and died in
Union County, Indiana, at the age of 84 years when William was fifteen
years old. Since the names of both the grandfather and father of
William H. H. Bowlsby are not given on the chart, the information
concerning them may be accounted as inaccurate family tradition. The
chart of William H. H. Bowlsby's family shows that his father had
seven children, but only the names of six are given. It is most
persuasive evidence that Enos and Abigail (Hayward) were the parents
of the mentioned children in that several of these same names are
found and associated as children of Enos in the records of Union,
Franklin, and Delaware counties of Indiana. Two Union County,
Indiana, marriage records remain a mystery. Aby Bowlsby married
Josiah Garrison on 2 Jan 1824; this may have been an unknown daughter
of Enos. Abi Bowlsby married Nathan Hamilton on 16 Sept, 1830; this
may have been the widow of Enos, since the biography of William H. H.
Bowlsby says that his father died in Indiana around 1829.

He was married to Abigail HAYWARD.(1606) Abigail HAYWARD(3) (5)(581) (582)(7) (8) was born about 1775/76.(1607) Enos BOWLSBY and Abigail HAYWARD had the following children:

child+601 i. Levi BOWLSBY.
child+602 ii. Maria BOWLSBY.
child603 iii. Wilson BOWLSBY(1608) (581)(582) (7)(8).
child604 iv. Louisa BOWLSBY(1609) (581)(582) (7)(8).
child605 v. Susan BOWLSBY(1610) (581)(582) (7)(8). She appears as an older sister of William H. H. Bowlsby and is said to
have lived in his home. Susan Bowlsby is mentioned in Early Landowners
of Union County Indiana. She was apparently the Susan born around
1800 who was living with her nephew James Finley Bowlsby in Madison
County, Iowa at the time of the 1870 Census.
child+606 vi. Aby BOWLSBY.
child+607 vii. William Henry Harrison BOWLSBY.
