ELEVENTH GENERATION

1625. William H. BOWLSBY (7714) (581)(582) (7715)(7) (8) was born in 1841 in Delaware County, Indiana. (7716)(7717) (7718) He died in 1888 in Madison County, Iowa. (7719)(7720) (7721) He was buried in Worthington Cemetery. (7722) His grave was marked as a veteran of the Civil War.
Iowa census reports of 1856 and 1860 list him as living with his
parents in Madison County with his parents.

Roster Iowa Soldiers - War of Rebellion Vol 2 indicates that he was a
residence of Madison Township, and a native of Indiana. He enlisted
Nov. 26, 1864. Mustered Nov. 26, 1864. Mustered out Nov. 27, 1865,
Mobile, Alabama.

He was married to Maria Harriet DUFF on 11 Dec 1861 in Madison County, Iowa.(7723) (7724)
He married under the name of William Bowlsby, Jr. This may have been because his name was William Henry and the "Jr." was to distinguish him from his uncle William Henry Harrison Bowlsby. The 1870 census of Madison County, Iowa, lists his household as
including thirteen persons, but this is deceiving, because four of
those listed were daughters of his older brother Wilson and they were
all listed as living in other persons' households as well. His
sister, Martha, and his brother Wilson's son, William, were listed in
his household, yet they were also listed in a household containing his
father, Levi, along with two young girls which appear to be his own
daughters. It was the last five and youngest children listed in his
household that must have been his own children. Helen, at ten years;
Jane, at nine years; Geneva, at six years; James, at four years; and
Julia A., at two years. Mrs. Gladys Beeman, Route 2, Earlham, Iowa, a
descendant of this family, offed to Raymond Edwin Bowlby a list of
William H. and Maria Harriet (Duff) Bowlsby's children. At first her
lists seems incompatible with the census, but with slight alteration
and consideration the lists can be combined as follows: Henen
Samantha, Jan Elizabeth, Geneva "Eva," James T., Julia Ann, Emma,
Charles H., Kate, and Velma. So it appears that William and Maria had
nine. Children. Maria Harriet DUFF (7725)(581) (582)(7) (8) was born in 1843.(7726) (7727) (7728) She died in 1923.(7729) (7730) (7731) She was buried in Worthington Cemetery, Madison Township, Madison County, Iowa.(7732) She was the daughter of William and Margaret F. (Adams) Duff. William H. BOWLSBY and Maria Harriet DUFF had the following children:
