Mrs. James Bowlby.
Mrs. James Bowlby died last Sunday after a two weeks' illness. Her maiden name was Amanda Grindle, the daughter of Jacob and Catherine Grindle. She was born in Ridge township, March 5, 1836. She was married to James
Bowlby Jan. 1, 1857. To this were born ten children, eight of whom are living, Mrs. Ellen Preston, of Muscatine, Io., Mrs. Emma L. O'Brien, of Pemberville, Mrs. Alice Mann, of Adrian, Mich., Mrs. Hattie Mosher, of Michigan, Rollin D., Nolan H., and Joseph W., of Findlay, and Orville C., of
Carey. The funeral was held at the M.E. church Tuesday morning at ten o'clock, Prof Manchester, of Findlay College, officiating. Interment was at the Lutheran cemetery on the ridge..
I have seen and photographed the monument for James and Amanda in the Lutheran Ridge Cemetery. Behind the Bowlby group (facing the opposite direction) there is a large curved white marble monument for

Next to that is a broken monument, also white marble. Below 2 rifles pointing upward, inscribed on a shield:

Presumably, this is a sibling of Amanda.
