716. Dr. David Sovereign BOWLBY^{(5) (6)(7) (8)} was born on 5 Sep 1826 in Townsend Township, Norfolk County, Ontario. ⁽⁴²¹⁵⁾ He was educated Upper Canada College, Toronto School Of Medicine, and College of Physicians and Surgeons, NY in 1853. ⁽⁴²¹⁶⁾ He started practice in Paris, but after a few months went to Berlin, now Kitchener, Ontario, to temporarily take the place of a cousin, Dr. J. W. Sovereign. He remained there building a large practice and serving the community not only as a doctor, but as a political citizen. Among his services were five years on the village council, 25 years chairman of Board of Trustees of the Berlin High School. He was a member of St. John's Anglican Church and president of local branch of the Upper Canada Bible Society. He died on 26 Dec 1903 in Rome, Italy.⁽⁴²¹⁷⁾ He died while traveling in Italy for relief from chronic bronchitis.

He was married to Martha Esther MURPHY on 2 Jul 1854. ⁽⁴²¹⁸⁾ Martha Esther MURPHY ^{(5)(6) (7)(8)} was born on 23 Jul 1836 in Montreal, Quebec.⁽⁴²¹⁹⁾ She died on 29 Dec 1925 in Kitchener, Ontario.⁽⁴²²⁰⁾ Dr. David Sovereign BOWLBY and Martha Esther MURPHY had the following children:
