395. Joseph Lanning BOWLBY ^{(2355) (760)} was born on 24 May 1787 in New Hampton, Hunterdon Co., NJ. He died on 10 Jul 1873 in New Hampton, Hunterdon Co., NJ. He was buried in Musconetcong Valley Presby. Church, NJ. He was also known as Sallie MCFERSON in the MARRIAGE RECORDS OF HUNTERDON COUNTY by Hiram E. DEATS. ⁽²³⁵⁶⁾

Joseph's family stories were used by John W. LEQUEAR in a series of newspaper articles in the "Hunterdon Republican" appearing in 1869-70. The articles were reprinted in a book, TRADITIONS OF HUNTERDON by D. H. MOREAU, Flemington, NJ, in 1957. The chapter, "BOWLBYS of Hampton," ends with the following quote: Joseph H. BOWLBY, now of New Hampton, is the oldest living representative of the family. He felicitously asserts that he and his amiable wife lived together for fifty-three years and have raised eleven children, ten of their own, and one who came to live with them when small. They had eleven of their own, but lost one."

He was married to Sarah MCPHERSON on 17 Mar 1810. He Married by Justice of Peace LITTLE..⁽²³⁵⁷⁾ Sarah MCPHERSON^{(2358) (760)} was born on 22 Feb 1795 in Quakertown, Hunterdon Co., NJ. She died on 31 Jan 1881. She was buried in Musconetcong Valley Presby. Church, NJ. She was also known as Sallie.

Sarah and her daughter, Euphemia, were named executors of Joseph's will, probated 7 AUG 1873. Joseph Lanning BOWLBY and Sarah MCPHERSON had the following children:
