ELEVENTH GENERATION

911. George Washington BOWLBY(5070) (760) was born on 9 Feb 1828 in New Hampton, Hunterdon Co., NJ. He died about 31 Jan 1902 in New Hampton, Hunterdon Co., NJ. He was buried in Musconetcong Valley Presby. Church, NJ.

The manuscript, "The Bowlby Family History," by Colonel Herbert BOWLBY is the best source of information on the descendants in this lineage. It reports that, in 1850, George and his brother, Sylvester, were employed as shoemakers when they followed the gold rush as far as Sherman, Texas, where they were stopped by the army because of Indian raids. Sylvester remained in Texas, but George returned to New Hampton where he spent the remainder of his life. He first prospered as a miller between 1860 and 1870, then set up a general store and became the local postmaster. It was probably in his younger years that he herded five hundred sheep from Ohio back to New Hampton.

He was married to Elizabeth L. FISHER in 1857. Elizabeth L. FISHER (5071)(760) was buried in Musconetcong Valley Presby. Church, NJ. George Washington BOWLBY and Elizabeth L. FISHER had the following children:
