Bowlby resided on his father's farm to which he added 70 acres
besides valuable tracts in other localities. He was known as a
representative agriculturist, and was a Republican since the
organization of the party. He served the town of Bath officially and
was one of the assessors.

He was married to Lydia Ray HUNTER on 30 Sep 1854 in Bath, New York.⁽¹⁹⁹⁸⁾⁽¹⁹⁹⁹⁾ Lydia Ray HUNTER⁽²⁰⁰⁰⁾⁽⁵⁾⁽⁶⁾⁽⁷⁾⁽⁸⁾ was born on 31 Jan 1836.⁽²⁰⁰¹⁾⁽²⁰⁰²⁾ She died on 25 Mar 1908.⁽²⁰⁰³⁾⁽²⁰⁰⁴⁾⁽²⁰⁰⁵⁾ She was buried in Grove Cemetery, Bath, New York.⁽²⁰⁰⁶⁾ John Alverman BOWLBY and Lydia Ray HUNTER had the following children:
