James BOWLBY ⁽¹⁰³²⁾⁽⁶⁾⁽⁷⁾⁽⁸⁾ was born on 2 Mar 1779.⁽¹⁰³³⁾⁽¹⁰³⁴⁾ He died on 14 Sep 1862 in Bath, New York.⁽¹⁰³⁵⁾⁽¹⁰³⁶⁾⁽¹⁰³⁷⁾ A few years before his death he was badly gored by an infuriated bull, but partially recovered. He was buried in Grove Cemetery, Bath, New York.⁽¹⁰³⁸⁾ According to the story told by his descendants, James was about four years old when his parents left for Nova Scotia. Rather than subject so young a child to their own uncertain future, James was left with his married sister, Mary, who was the wife of Newbold Woolston and lived near Washington, New Jersey. Two other children of Richard and Mary also remained in the Washington area, Elizabeth m. Thomas Bray, and Thomas, m. Sarah Axford in 1788.

He was married to Catherine MAYBURY on 8 Feb 1807 in Sussex County, New Jersey.⁽¹⁰³⁹⁾⁽¹⁰⁴⁰⁾⁽¹⁰⁴¹⁾ New Jersey Marriages, 1684-1850 indicates their wedding date was 1 Feb 1807. It also indicates the two names were spelled, James Bowlsby and Catharine Mayberry. Catherine MAYBURY⁽⁵⁾⁽⁶⁾⁽⁷⁾ ⁽⁸⁾ was born on 15 Nov 1786.⁽¹⁰⁴²⁾⁽¹⁰⁴³⁾ Grove Cemetery transcription indicates her year of birth was 1779. She died on 14 Sep 1869 in Bath, New York.⁽¹⁰⁴⁴⁾⁽¹⁰⁴⁵⁾⁽¹⁰⁴⁶⁾ She was buried in Grove Cemetery, Bath, New York.⁽¹⁰⁴⁷⁾ She was also known as "Katheran and Mayberry".⁽¹⁰⁴⁸⁾⁽¹⁰⁴⁹⁾ James BOWLBY and Catherine MAYBURY had the following children:
