380. Joseph BOULBY ⁽²⁹⁾⁽⁶⁾⁽⁷⁾⁽⁸⁾ was born in 1798 in Dewsbury, Yorkshire, England.⁽²²⁹¹⁾⁽²²⁹²⁾ These notes from Barry Burley:

Joseph was a bricklayer in his youth no doubt working with his father Thomas. They would have moved around wherever the work was available often working away from home.

The first 2 children were baptised at St. John's in Wakefield and (after 1825) the family moved to Sheffield.

Joseph & Ann's first house in Sheffield was at Attercliffe where son George Septimus was born in 1828. Over the next 30 years the building of steelworks and steelworkers houses completely covered the beautiful landscape which had been a scattered agricultural community, now the worst industrial dereliction!

By 1830 Joseph and Ann had moved to the other side of Sheffield where Susanna was born. In July 1837, birth, marriage, and death civil registration began. Abraham became the first of Joseph's offspring to have a birth certificate. Abraham was born on Hermitage Street on the eastern fringe of Sheffield.

The family was found in the 1841 census, Flockton Yard, George Lane, Sheffield. Sometime after 1842 the family moved back to Wakefield.

He was married to Ann CLARKSON (daughter of ) on 23 Oct 1820 in St. John's, Wakefield, country of York, England.⁽²²⁹³⁾⁽²²⁹⁴⁾ Ann CLARKSON⁽²⁹⁾⁽⁵⁾⁽⁶⁾⁽⁷⁾⁽⁸⁾ was born in 1797.⁽²²⁹⁵⁾⁽²²⁹⁶⁾ She was the oldest daughter. She died in 1862.⁽²²⁹⁷⁾⁽²²⁹⁸⁾ Joseph BOULBY and Ann CLARKSON had the following children:

875 iv. Susanna BOULBY⁽²⁹⁾⁽⁶⁾⁽⁷⁾⁽⁸⁾ was born in 1831.⁽²²⁹⁹⁾ ⁽²³⁰⁰⁾ She was christened in 1831 in St. George's, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. She died in 1876.⁽²³⁰¹⁾ She was buried in 1876 in Wakefield.

877 vi. William BOULBY⁽²⁹⁾⁽⁶⁾⁽⁷⁾⁽⁸⁾ was born in 1835.⁽²³⁰²⁾ ⁽²³⁰³⁾ He was christened in 1835 in St. George's, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.⁽²⁹⁾ He died in 1846.⁽²³⁰⁴⁾ He was buried in 1846 in Wakefield.⁽²⁹⁾

He was married to Sarah CLARKSON (daughter of ) on 22 Feb 1864 in St. John's, Wakefield, country of York, England.⁽²³⁰⁵⁾ After her sister Ann died, Sarah married her sister's widower, Joseph Boulby.
