Raymond Edwin Bowlby writes:
John received a bequest in his father's will of 1773 of an unspecified amount
of land to be divided between him and his brothers, Edward and Samuel, and the
common use of his father's mill. It is stated in his brother Edward's loyalist
claim in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, 23 June 1786, that John and Edward owned 720
acres at Hanover, New Jersey, which had never been divided and was confiscated
and sold by the State. John was loyal to the Crown during the Revolution. Inquisition
was held in Morris County on the 14 May 1778, declaring he had joined the enemy
against his country. His lands were confiscated and sold 30 March 1779. An
indenture of 21 March 1799, states: "...By which grant the said Trust was
granted by His Majesty to the said Charles Bowlby conjointly with his Brother
John Bowlby, now deceased." He was married to Rachel.

According to Raymond Edwin Bowlby: Rachel, being the widow of John, received
a bequest in his brother Thomas' will of 1798 . John BOWLBY and Rachel had the
