ELEVENTH GENERATION

1595. Dr. Joseph BOWLBY ⁽⁷⁸¹⁰⁾⁽³⁶³²⁾⁽⁷⁾⁽⁸⁾ was born on 17 Feb 1854 in Rush County, Indiana.⁽⁷⁸¹¹⁾ He died on 28 Jun 1906 in Shelby County, Indiana.⁽⁷⁸¹²⁾ He was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville, Indiana.⁽⁷⁸¹³⁾ After a common school education, Joseph taught school for six terms in
Rush County. He then moved to Shelby County in 1859. In 1880 he
began reading medicine with Dr. Lot Green of Rushville and taking
courses at the Ohio Medical College at Cincinnati. He graduated in
March 1883 and took up practice as physician and surgeon in Marion
Township Shelby County. He opened up offices in Shelbyville in 1894
where he continued practice until his death. He was a member of the
Presbyterian Church, the Masonic fraternity, and in politics was a
Republican.

He was married to Mary Ellen YARLING on 12 Apr 1885 in Shelby County, Indiana.⁽⁷⁸¹⁴⁾ Mary Ellen YARLING⁽³⁾⁽³⁶³⁶⁾⁽³⁶³⁷⁾⁽⁶⁾⁽³⁶³²⁾⁽⁷⁾⁽⁸⁾ was born on 18 Nov 1864.⁽⁷⁸¹⁵⁾ She died on 6 Mar 1937.⁽⁷⁸¹⁶⁾ She was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville, Indiana.⁽⁷⁸¹⁷⁾ Dr. Joseph BOWLBY and Mary Ellen YARLING had the following children:

at Columbia University in New York City. In 1913 she began working as
assistant librarian in Shelbyville Public Library and in April 1919
was made librarian. She never married.
