TENTH GENERATION

478. Samuel Coleman BOWLBY (3) (2859)(5) (3)(2860) (6)(7) (8) was born on 17 Jun 1788 in Sussex, now Warren County, New Jersey. (2861)(2862)
The Norcross book provides specific birth date information. He died on 6 Dec 1838 in Orange Township, Ashland County, Ohio. (2863) He was buried in Orange Cemetery at Nankin. (2864)(2865) Land records show that Samuel's father, James of Monongalia County,
Virginia, made three purchases of land in Richland County, now part of
Ahsland County, ohio. James made two purchases 31 Oct 1814, amounting
to 460 acres for $868,85; this land lay in the townships of Orange and
Vermillion, and patented 10 July 1817. James made another purchase 23
June 1817 in Vermillion. These purchases made up a whole section of
land, and indicate that Samuel probably moved to Ohio and took up his
father's land as early as 1817 when he was 29 years old.

He was married to Elizabeth BAER on 20 May 1830 in West Virginia. (2866)(2867) (2868) Elizabeth BAER (5)(6) (7)(8) was born on 12 May 1812. (2869) She died on 16 Dec 1894. (2870) She was buried in Orange Cemetery at Nankin. (2871) She was also known as "Beal" "Bare". (2872)(2873) Confusion over her maiden name arises because the biography of her son, James, gives it as "Baer," and the death certificate of her daughter, Susannah give it as "Beal." Samuel Coleman BOWLBY and Elizabeth BAER had the following children:

child+1196 i. Mariah BOWLBY.
child+1197 ii. Lydia BOWLBY.
child+1198 iii. Susannah C. BOWLBY.
child+1199 iv. James Samuel BOWLBY.
child+1200 v. John H. BOWLBY.
