William Ennis BOWLBY ⁽⁸¹⁶⁾⁽⁷⁵⁰⁴⁾⁽⁷⁵²²⁾⁽⁶⁾⁽⁷⁾⁽⁸⁾ was born on 10 Sep 1847 in Milford, Clermont County, Ohio.⁽⁷⁵²³⁾⁽⁷⁵²⁴⁾ He died on 7 Apr 1936 in Olney, Richland County, Illinois.⁽⁷⁵²⁵⁾⁽⁷⁵²⁶⁾ He was buried on 9 Apr 1936 in Blain (Sugar Creek) Cemetery, Richland County, Illinois.⁽⁷⁵²⁷⁾ It was a very rainy Thursday. The casket bearers were Leo Bowlby,
James O'Donnell, John R. O'Donnell, Charles W. Speiser, Vernon Kirby,
and Lloyd Hopkins. Rev. H.H. Adamson performed the funeral service.

He was married to Eliza Ann JENNER on 23 May 1868 in Olney, Richland County, Illinois.⁽⁷⁵²⁸⁾⁽⁷⁵²⁹⁾⁽⁷⁵³⁰⁾ They were married by the Rev. Stephen L. Cheek. William Ennis built "the Old Homeplace," a farmhouse 3 miles west of
Olney where all or most of his children and several of his
grandchildren were born. He farmed there for a number of years, and
then began to speculate in real estate. He is remembered by several
of his grandchildren as being a gentle and kind old gentleman who
liked blue three-piece suits and starched white shirts and was never
without his big cane. He made his abode with the family of George and
Mina (Glace) Bowlby in later years. Hi great grandson, David Dean
Bowlby writes: "He was the Lord Protector of his grandchildren.
Whenever his son George would set out to discipline his children, they
would run to Grandpa. William Ennis would always say 'Thunderation
(or alternatively, 'By thunder') George, you touch this child and
I'll crack you on the head with this cane!" Eliza Ann JENNER⁽⁸¹⁶⁾⁽⁷⁵³¹⁾⁽⁶⁾⁽⁷⁾⁽⁸⁾ was born on 21 May 1850 in Illinois.⁽⁷⁵³²⁾⁽⁷⁵³³⁾ She died on 14 Aug 1888 in Olney, Illinois.⁽⁷⁵³⁴⁾⁽⁷⁵³⁵⁾ She was buried in Blain (Sugar Creek) Cemetery, Richland County, Illinois. William Ennis BOWLBY and Eliza Ann JENNER had the following children:
